My son is a Vampire! HELP!

Sunday, December 28, 2014

What do vampires do?  They BITE and suck blood.  But I'm just referring to the *biting*

When I was younger, I had a cousin who loved to bite out of *gigil*.  So I remember my brother and I would have bite marks all over our body.  He was notorious for biting - as the yayas would always warn us to keep our distance, as he can and will *bite* us anytime he pleases.  He outgrew it eventually.  Thank goodness.

For the past few days, Kailee has been telling me that Connor tries to bite her.  I told her that if Connor ever attempted to do it again - to run and tell me immediately.

On Christmas Day - we were at SM Aura.  While waiting for my mother in law in All Flip Flops, Kailee and Connor were busy playing on the round chair - they were laughing and running around the chair.  And then I heard a sharp scream, when I turned around I saw Kailee crying and banging her arm on the chair.  She then screamed *Connor bit me Mommy!*  I saw her face and she was in real pain, she was trying to reach her back so I took a look - and then I saw it - it was a bite mark.  It was purple - dark purple.  I hugged her tight and consoled her.  When Kailee calmed a bit, I spoke to Connor - but as usual, he wasn't responsive.  He refused to look at me - so I hugged him and told him not to bite - that it hurts Kailee when he does that.  I told him to go to Kailee to say sorry and to hug her.  But Kailee was too scared - that when Connor went up to her, she ran to me for protection.  Poor Kailee.

Yesterday was a good day because there were only *attempts* to bite.  He was like a vampire, running after Kailee and wanting to grab her to bite her.  He would try and grab her arms, or legs or even pinch her cheeks.  Connor was a madman.  It was scary.  Whenever I reprimanded him - he would calm down and be back to his normal playful self.  No sign at all of the madman like vampire chasing Kailee around.

My Panget and I spoke about it - that we should be consistent in telling Connor that biting is not good.  But then we realize that 2year old toddler wouldn't understand, he was too young to know the difference.  To be honest, I am stumped - I don't know what to do to make him stop.  I just keep telling myself that this is just a phase, a phase that will end - I hope soon rather than later.

This afternoon, while we were in Mega Fashion Hall, Connor was successful in biting Kailee again.  They were playing - and having a wonderful time and then BOOM - Kailee screams again because she got bit.  She ran to my Panget to tell him what Connor did.  But Connor was oblivious that he cause his Atchi serious pain.

Is this what Terrible Twos is all about??

This has got to stop - but how?

HELP ME.  Please.  I honestly, don't know what to do!

I am seriously considering slapping his hand.  HELP!

Press Release

Yaya Diaries: Yaya Babylyn Part 2

Thursday, December 11, 2014

We all have a LOVE-HATE relationship with our Yayas/Helpers.  They give us unending headaches and sometimes - heartache.  I have written my fair share of headaches & heartaches - but well, what can I do?  I need them in my life - and that's the trade off.

It's been quite a while that I've written about them.  Nope, it's doesn't mean that I've found the *one* it simply means, I got tired of writing about them.  But last night, I got a text message from Yaya Babylyn - it seems she forgot who I was.  This is the second time she did that.  And I wanted to share how brave and bold and direct they are - with the matters of the flesh.

The first time was this message:  Please note the date.

How bold of her right?  A bit of screw loose in the head?  So I ignored her.  But then I realized, this woman - gosh, she's really something.  I mean to boldy ask someone to have sex with her?  I guess sex in indeed a pleasure for her.  According to my Sister in Law this Yaya Babylyn has 2 kids at least!  Wow.  And then again last night, I think she wanted to have another *thing* with the owner of my number - but then I replied to her and I guess, she was surprised?  I dunno, what do you think?

Now, with that reply.  I really wanted to know - ANO ANG DAPAT KONG INTINDIHIN?  What should I understand?  I was very confused - I mean, in her mind - what did she do?  I think she felt that she didn't do anything wrong!  What the hell right?

I don't want to be mean but then when we come across these kind of people, I cannot help but feel angry, irritated and confused because what didn't I understand about her situation?  I'm fuming now - because as I recall, she asked for an advance from me so she could commute to my place and I willingly gave it to her.  But what happened?  She never showed up?  She even told me that she'd return the money - that I don't rush her with it!  It's been months but no news from her at all.  I don't send her messages - I just let it be.  Friends have told me to let it go - at least its just P1,000.00 - But still right?  I could have just given this amount to my yayas instead - they're more deserving!

I've learned to accept the fact that the P1,000.00 will be gone forever.  I don't think she will ever return the money.  I just thought to myself that she needed the money so bad that she needed to *dupe* me.  I just hope that when the time comes that she's really in need, karma won't bite her back.

I took to FB and found her.  So I posted the link of my previous post.  I got an inquiry from her neighbor asking if it was true - I told the neighbor to ask Yaya Babylyn herself.  I knew she would deny it - to save face!  But I can't believe it - I mean - for her to say *mababawi pa ba yung nilagay sa FB*?  I did not concoct that story, why should I?  Just look at the text message above - is there a way to make that up?  I don't think so!  I took a screenshot as proof because I had a feeling she will sing a different tune.

I know I will be mean but are these people's brains wired so differently?  I don't understand why they feel so entitled?  Did society do that?  Make them feel entitled because of their status in life?  That we owe them something more?

I am so very confused and irritated.  Boiling mad even - I mean, the nerve!

Didi's Holiday Gift Guide

Wednesday, December 10, 2014

This is my first ever attempt in making a Holiday Gift Guide, and here it is!!!

Why?  Simply because its long!  See how long?  It covers your whole forearm and that is important!  I remember the time when I was so scared of getting burned by the oven that I had to use sticks and thong just to get my pyrex from the oven!  With this fabulous oven mitt - you need not worry about your forearm!  I have been using this for months and I super love it! :)  I love that it's thick, easy to clean and most of all - LONG!!

And look at how cute it is - so nice to see it in the kitchen.  Changes the mood and feel of the kitchen too!  They have other products too - very useful, functional, versatile and durable not just for the kitchen but for everyone - from babies to adults - truly, very versatile!  Check out their FB page for more items and inquiries.

Cotton is the Bags2Go donya and while texting to one another, she mentioned that she was making sausages.  You know how I am with food right?  I give it a try!  And I looooooved it!  I especially loved the Traditional Hungarian and the Polish Sausage!  They're quite affordable too, if you ask me.  Three (3) large sausages are just P150.00!  These babies contain NO PRESERVATIVES and Cotton only used the finest of ingredients.  I swear, while I was munching on the sausages - you'll see and taste the real herbs!!

Please get in touch with Cotton at 0917-8949695.  Click the link above to see their FB page!

Two years ago, I fell in love with Chona's ensaimadas.  They were and still are the BEST that I've ever tasted.  Her ensais are the softest, lightest and oh so very good!  Last year she made the Ube Jam and I fell in love with it too!  I gave it away to friends and relatives for Christmas!  I gifted by neighbor with a bottle and she texted me right after receiving it saying that it was the BEST she ever tasted!  I was so happy!!

You can reach Chona here 0928-5070928 she's a sweetheart!!

These products are lifesavers for me!  If you want to give a practical gift - choose between the products above.  Know that these products are kid friendly, organic and made especially of kids with Eczema!  I hate eczema but we've managed it with TruKidss Face & Body Lotion (for Kailee( and Grandma El's Lotion (for Connor).  I personally use Grandma EL's Diaper Rash Prevention salve as a lip balm and as treatment to my sore and dry nose when I have severe allergies or colds - yes, it's that good of a product!  Very very effective!

Please get in touch with Vanessa at 0917-7959980

I was a non believer until, I was given one to try.  It was MAGIC.  Believe it, it was for my kids!  Read about my experience HERE. After trying it on - I've bought a couple more to replenish my stash.  Kailee & Connor's skin have improved so much ever since using the Konjac Sponge.  The idea is that the sponge balances the pH of the water - this making it safe for kids with eczema (sensitive skin).  The Body Sponges cost P450.00 each.

This is also a magical products for the kids when they're sick.  I personally use this too as I love the effect!  It's camphor free and only uses the finest oils and ingredients.  Connor uses this whenever he gets sick and it helps him breath and sleep at night.  Kailee loves putting this on her tummy when she has a tummy ache.  I use this too whenever I am sick.  I like that i's all natural and doesn't contain camphor.  I love the smell too!

GINGERBREAD House, Tree, Duo, Trio
My Sister-In-Law makes them and they're very pretty, neat and delish!  For a different take on a gift, you can try giving a traditional Gingerbread House - it's edible!  I so enjoy taking the house apart day by day and eating it.  I so love the flavor and the smell!  BTW - do you know that the spices used in making gingerbread repels ants?  Yep, yep!

Please contact Sasa Tan 0917-5339275

My future Sister-In-Law makes them personally and her apple pie is included in Yummy's Best Dessert list of 2013!  She makes a killer Choco Decadent Cake and a traditional very evenly thinly sliced apple pie!  I swear, you'll love her when you taste her creations!  Click the link above for inquiries

BABAR BARS Brownies & Caramel filled brownies
My Panget's good friend's brother bakes and I posted about it two years ago and I looooved how chewy and heavy it was.  His brownies are the real deal for me, they're heavy (seriously) and not those light kind.  These one - if you bite into them, your teeth will literally sink into the brownie.  Read here my 2012 post on how much I loved Babar Bars!!  Please get in touch with Ton  0917-5306086 and order 2 days in advance!! :)

Shell Fuel Save: Travel & Safety Tips

Saturday, December 06, 2014

I am not very particular with the issue of gasoline.  Just as long as I have a full tank or at least half a tank of gas while on the road - I was okay.  It was important to me to have AC and that I would be able to reach a particular destination without trouble.  I wasn't aware that there were different types of gas - the only thing I knew different was there was diesel and gas, that's about it.  It was only recently when I really started driving around that I became conscious of the gas that I was consuming.  I remember changing from Petron to Caltex to Shell.  My Panget is a Shell loyalist - and he has convinced me to switch.

More than a month ago, I - together with the SoMoms had an *out of town* trip.  It was my first ever out of town trip alone with Connor and with the SoMoms (my newfound friends!).  So I was very excited.  The plan was that I will drive to Tagaytay, but on the last minute, my ever thoughtful Father-In-Law (Bless him!) sent over his driver and a car to take us.  He *worried* about my driving skills since Connor (his unico ijo apo) was with me.  I welcome it with open arms!  I was disappointed but hey, I won't get too tired - right?

My FIL's car of choice was an A4 Audi - this baby ran on diesel.  Would you believe that?  A sedan than runs on diesel?  I couldn't!  I quizzed our driver Ruel on the car's efficiency and he was witness to how fuel efficient this powerful machine was since he drove this most of the time out of town.  He was telling me that we would only consume less that P2,000.00 worth of fuel on a full tank.  I was secretly doubting him - and I got the shock when I saw the reading.  He was correct!

The drive was very smooth, considering we were on diesel, but I guess the engine also had something to do with the smoothness.  With Shell's Fuel Save Diesel the A4 performed the best - they were complementing one another - a good fuel to run a good engine!

I am sharing to you the 10 Good choices for fuel-efficient driving that Shell gave us:

1.  Drive smoothly and avoid high speeds.
Maintain a steady speed and keep your steering as even as possible. Avoid braking or accelerating too quickly as this burns more fuel. The faster you go, the more wind resistance you encounter, forcing your car to consume more fuel.

My Panget used to tell me that Jeepney drivers would consume a lot more fuel because they kept on speeding up and suddenly breaking - and I didn't believe that.  Apparently, it's true!  Hahaha...

2.  Plan your trips.
Always know which routes to take and plan trips accordingly. Try to combine small trips so you spend less time on the road and consume less fuel. For instance, schedule a trip to the mall and a friend’s house if they happen to be in the same vicinity.

I so believe in this.  I gather that since you are already in one place, might as well visit whoever is in the area.  Since we were already in the South, I planned to have lunch with a friend who lives in Alabang.  She cancelled last minute, so instead I went this restaurant that I have been meaning to visit for almost a year already (but never had the chance to).  My friend Tina, The Phenomenal Mama was convoy-ing, so I had to drag her and her daughters with me.  We visited Mama Lou's in Nuvali - I apologized to Tina ahead of time, but since I was already in the South, I knew I had to visit.  And boy were we all glad we visited!

 3.  Avoid carrying excess weight.
Your fuel efficiency can drop for every 100 lbs (45kg) you carry in your car. Consider removing your roof rack if it is not in use.

I honestly had doubts about this!  But apparently, it's true!  The heavier the car, the more fuel it consumes!  Take for example a sedan vs an SUV - of course, the engine is bigger.  But let's say you have more that you can carry on your car - your car drags more weight thus more work for the engine!

4.  Maintain the right tire pressure.
Fuel efficiency can be reduced even if tires are under inflated by just one psi. Maintain the ideal tire pressure of 30 psi. Check tires at least once a week or whenever you visit your favorite retail station.

My Panget had all the tires of our cars checked the day before we left.  He said it was important because a low pressured car would be heavier to drive, thus you'd step on the gas deeper.

5.  Do preventive maintenance and check-ups on your vehicle.
Fuel efficiency is affected by how well a car is maintained. A dirty engine increases fuel consumption. Start by using a high quality lubricant, changing worn out spark plugs and replacing clogged air filters.

6.  Check your fuel cap.
Make sure the fuel cap is properly screwed on after every fill up to prevent fuel from evaporating.

My Panget just bought an expensive fuel cap and I was wondering why.  He then explained that if the fuel cap is loose - the fuel evaporates.  I didn't know that not screwing it on properly will make you lose gas!  Aya!

7.  Avoid excess idling.
Idling is a surefire way to burn more fuel. Turn off your engine if you have to stay for more than 10 seconds.

This is very new to me.  But apparently, there are a few new cars that *stop* when they're idle - to save gas!  I thought it was dubious - but it's true!  While we were in Kyoto - the bus we rode would turn off his engine every time we hit a stoplight and then turn it back on when the light goes green!  My Panget pointed it out to me.  I remember my dad when I was young would let the car run for more than 5 minutes he said *pinapainit ang kotse* and I thought it was silly - and it really is!  Hahaha..

8.  Keep your windows closed.
Driving with windows open slows the car down. Close the windows when there is no need to open them.

This is new to me because I remember my Panget telling me to close the AC when I'm running low on fuel.  Hihi..  I guess this tip refers to when you are in a steady speed - and the wind with slow you down.  Hihi..

9.  Avoid rush hour.
Getting up a bit earlier can be a chore, but avoiding rush hour means spending less time stuck in traffic.

Traffic does cause you extra fuel.  This is very very true.  No explanations needed!!

10.  Make a good choice and fill up with Shell FuelSave.Shell FuelSave, a regular priced fuel, contains active efficiency ingredients that can help improve your fuel efficiency from the very first tank. When combined with fuel-efficient driving habits, Shell FuelSave can help make your fuel last longer.

This is the reason why my Panget is a SHELL loyalist.

Hotel Kimberly Tagaytay

Thursday, December 04, 2014

The last time I was in Tagaytay - I think I wasn't married yet.  Yes, it has been that long - too long.  Well, to be honest - when I still didn't have kids, I was always game for an out of town trip.  It was always a *go* for me.  But now that I have kids, I'm sorry to say - that the thought of going on an out of town trip with them, repels me.  Why?  Simply because of all the things you need to pack and take along with you.  I have to be honest, now that I have kids - I bring with me *everything* as in everything!  Then I need to know that the place we're going to is conducive for kids or is kid friendly.  I mean, you don't bring your child to a nudist beach or a place that needs a long uphill hike.  Now that I have Kailee and Connor - it's all about them.  It's all about keeping them entertained and wanting them to have fun and enjoy the trip as well.  A lot of elders tell us that kids won't remember anything - but I beg to disagree.  I believe they gain a lot of things, even when they're young.

I'm very happy that nowadays, hotels and resorts pay equal attention to making their little guests enjoy the experience.  Hotels have invested in creating a play area and other *entertaining* activities to attract more families to their place.

Together with the SoMoms, we celebrated our Halloween Extravaganza at Hotel Kimberly.  I've read reviews that Hotel Kimberly has a petting zoo, a farm and a nice play area.  A friend of mine even went as far as saying that her kids didn't want to leave the hotel the whole time!

Photo from Hotel Kimberly Tagaytay Website

I have this idea in my head that getting to Tagaytay will take at least two (2) hours (and more!) - but I was wrong.  From Shell SLEX it only took us a little more than a hour, and we were not rushing!  Location wise, I like the Hotel Kimberly is away from the hustle and bustle of the main highway.  I like the quietness and the serenity that if offers.  The place is pretty big too!  I actually like the size - the size is honestly perfect, it's not small yet it's not overly huge.  Guests can wander around without having to bump into another guest's private space and moment.

They have not 1 but 2 swimming pools!
And see that venue?  It has a capacity of 200 people, perfect for intimate weddings!

I really love how *green* this place is.
You can just sit here admire the scenery sip a cold drink or have quiet time and read.

Here, kids can do more than just swim.  They can have a picnic.  There's a huge playground. They can interact and feed animals such as rabbits, chickens, ducks, turkeys, rams and peacocks (I was impressed they they have a LOT of animals).  This type of interaction for me is great for the kids and adults.  I mean, let's be honest - where else can you experience this type of activity in the city?  And in one place?!  And being a few hours away from Manila - Hotel Kimberly is the perfect place for a small *getaway* literally outside of the city.  It's not a staycation but a vacation YET it feels like a staycation because of the proximity.

Here is Connor enjoying *nature*!
Since we don't go out of town a lot, he was able to experience running endlessly on the grassy area

Here he is feeding the chickens and the ducks!
So glad that he wasn't afraid of the animals!  Kailee would've freaked out!

One of the rare picture of Connor looking at the camera while enjoying the animals!

Connor is a curious boy and I was a proud mom that he went and took a close look at the rabbit!!

This is just a partial view of how vast the area is in Hotel Kimberly Tagaytay

I have said time and again that customer service for me is very important.  Hotel Kimberly's staff is very friendly.  You know how particular I am with customer service and I have to say that based on my (high) standards - Hotel Kimberly passed with flying colors!  Once you enter the premises, you'd feel the genuine warmth and welcome that they have.  Everyone has a *genuine* smile on.  The staff is very accommodating and assists you in every way that they can.  They will offer you refreshments and will lead you to the waiting area.  We were greeted by the charming Jeff Chan, he showed us his place and was very giddy to let us roam the place and see for ourselves that Hotel Kimberly had to offer.  By way of his actions, it showed me how proud he is with the place and how he knew that we would like it there.  I have to mention three (staff) names - EDGAR, CHITO and JON JON.  All three of them went above and beyond what was tasked of them.  They showed exceptional warmth and they were really very helpful.  To me a smile goes a long way, a simple greeting, the willingness to help and serve makes us want to come back for more.  Edgar for example while we were having an activity on the playground was all prepared with his water and serving them to everyone.  Chito was assisting everyone in the pool, his smile is delightful and sincere.  Jon Jon was ever ready with his helpfulness and might while we were setting up the game room.  These three are really keepers.  They made my stay more enjoyable and memorable.

Connor looks lost.  Hahaha!!
This is a queen size bed with an extra bed for Yaya Belen to sleep in.
The bed was comfortable and the aircon was very cold (which I loooooved!)
Oh!  Did I mention that they have *free* wifi??

Connor climbing the cabs.  Haha!!
Sorry, he's very malikot..

The size of the rooms are good as you can see the images above.  They're not tiny where you'd have a hard time going around the room.  The size is actually perfect for 4 people.  Let me say that the bathroom is spacious enough, it  .  But overall - I'm happy with the De Luxe room that we got.  The aircon was really cold, which is very good for us since Connor has skin asthma.  Amenities are complete too!  What I think needs to be added are the location of the electric outlets.  I understand that there might be a limitation on this so, it's alright.  Maybe they can just offer to lend some extension cords?  Hehehe..

Overall, I enjoyed my stay in Hotel Kimberly.  I would definitely go back and stay here if we decide to come to Tagaytay.  I like that it's a family oriented place where the parents can lounge and have *me* time while the kids can run and play and enjoy the playground and the mini petting zoo.  I think it's the closest thing you can get to nature without going too far away.  I really loved that they focused on the *family* and what you can do together without going too far away.

I almost forgot to mention the food!  The food is good!  It's Pinoy fare but good!  I especially loved their bagoong!  I kept on asking more.  The price range is also okay, it's not very expensive as the servings are big.  If there are only a few guests - the opt for ala carte, but I think if the hotel's capacity is filled up they offer buffet too!  Our breakfast buffet was really nice - I liked the selection - well, the bacon most especially!  Hahaha..

Sorry for the weird angle!  This was our breakfast buffet.
Not bad right?

Below were some of dishes we had for lunch, they were all very good!

We all had our tummies filled full!

WOW!

And I will not forget to mention - look at the parking space below:

YUP!  It's that big.  I'm impressed that they thought of every single detail!

GOOD job Hotel Kimberly Tagaytay!
I hope to see you sooooooooon!!

DIDIscoveries: Johns Cookers: Southern Fried Chicken in Examiner

Wednesday, November 19, 2014

We pass by Examiner on a regular basis and so we are witness to so many things - existing eat-all-you-can restos, new small restos popping up here and there, car washes that are open 24/7 and of course the ABS-CBN warehouse (or sort of) that is the main *sorting* ground when there are relief operations.

So, two weeks ago - we suddenly noticed that the place that Cassava Creme used to occupy is now Johns Cookers!  We slowed down to see the place it was very well lit and new (obviously!)  My Panget told me that we should try it sometime - it was perfect because that day, we didn't have a helper, so I thought to buy some take out.

I dropped by the place right after I heard Mass in a nearby Church.  I was greeted with smiles.  The menu was fairly standard - they were offering burgers and chicken.  I asked for their specialty and they told me that it was the fried chicken.  You know how much of a sucker I am for friend chicken - and so I ordered.  Initially didn't know how much to order but then decided to get 2 sets of the 6 pieces Fried Chicken.  I had to make sure that everyone was well fed.  So I placed the order.

While waiting for the order, chatty fatty me struck up a conversation with the staff.  I asked them if this was their first branch.  I learned that this was their second branch, their first branch was located in Kingspoint in Novaliches and that they've been open for 3 years now.  I was telling the staff that if they've been open for 3 years, that meant that they were successful.  The staff also told me that they also have a coffee shop right beside the Kingspoint branch.  I was curious so I asked her - why open a branch in Examiner (since it was far away from Novaliches) she said that the owners lived in a nearby village.  For a staff, she knew the history and the product.  Very good!

A few minutes later - a couple with a cute little girl walked in.  The staff were all smiles and she introduced them to me, they were the owners.  I met Ryan, his lovely wife Ann and their pretty little girl (I'm sorry but her name escapes me) - since they were there, I decided to ask them about the restaurant.  I'm really chatty - so I apologized in advance and told them that I like asking questions.  Hahaha!!  They were very accommodating answering my every question.  So to Ryan and Ann - THANK YOU for being so nice to me.

Johns Cookers started out in Kingspoint, Novaliches - according to Ryan and Ann, one of Ryan's brothers was in the food business and was familiar with how one works, so based on his knowledge and experience the family put up Johns Cookers and it was successful.  I asked them why it was named Johns Cookers - Ryan said that he and his brother were all named John (but they all had different second names) - that's why it was decided to name it Johns to symbolize the sons of the family.  I asked why they picked this location (I'm sure you'd say I ask a LOT of questions!  Hahaha.. But seriously, I do!!) they mentioned the proximity of the place from their house plus, they had regular customers along West Avenue and their neighbors in the village order from them too!  So they decided to risk it and open a branch nearby.

We had a good long conversation - in the minutes that I waited for my order to arrive, I got to know Ryan and Ann and they're really nice and warm people.  I always believe that we meet people not by accident - and I would like to think that what we spoke about in those minutes would help them in their current struggle.  So to Ryan and Ann, if you're reading this - you and your daughter are in my prayers.  I sincerely hope that we bump into one another again soon!  It's my philosophy in life to share information - whatever I know may be helpful and useful to others and I am one who is not selfish when it comes to sharing information & knowledge if need be, so I hope what I shared with you both will help you guys somehow - kahit konti lang.  It was so nice to have met you guys.

When my orders arrived, I had to go - it was nearing dinner time and I know my kids were hungry already.  Since Johns Cookers is nearby - I was home in minutes.  The aroma of the Southern fried chicken filled the car and I was so tempted to try some!  I honestly had big expectations - I mean southern fried chicken.  I was familiar with what it should be (based on my experience and knowledge) so I was hoping and praying that it would meet my expectations.

So, what is southern fried chicken?  Well, for me - it's fried chicken with batter.  It should be fried to a crisp, golden brown, soft and let's not forget - the gravy!  Hahahaha..  So when I got home, I hurriedly called the kids and my Panget and opened a box of Johns Cookers Southern Fried Chicken.

This is the ONLY picture I got to take because everyone was excited to EAT!!

This was what welcomed our sights and our senses.  The aroma was wonderful and we were all excited to taste it.  I took one piece and oh my gosh - it was so very soft and juicy!!  I loved that the chicken wasn't overpowered by the batter.  The chicken meat was so tender, the batter was just the right amount of crisp - I like that it wasn't very crispy to the point of burning, it was just right.  The flavor was good based on my palate - I don't like too much seasoning as there was the gravy to complement the flavor.  My Panget would love more punch, he's partial to *spice* thus wanted more spicy flavor.  The kids loved it - Connor had two (2) pieces while Kailee was drinking the gravy and didn't want to share!  Hahaha..  I gave the yayas 4 pieces to try, and they loved it too!

Everyone was happy and satisfied - imagine, the 12 pieces of chicken were all devoured.  There was nothing left - nothing.  Even the gravy - Kailee and I finished them off!  It was a wonderful take-out dinner, wonderful!

So, would we be ordering again?  DEFINITELY!  We'd love to try out their burgers next time.

The place is small, so a big group might be hard to fit.  But know that they deliver!  Yes, they do! I'll post the flyer as soon as I have it scanned.

For the price a 6pc. Fried Chicken will cost you P250.00.

On & Off again Colds & Cough

Tuesday, November 18, 2014

For the past three months, I have been battling colds and cough.  It has come and gone.  I was well for a week and then something happens and I get sick again.  It has gone far too long that's why I decided to consult a doctor.  I am one who avoids going to the doctor.  The only time I went religiously was when I was pregnant with Kailee and Connor, but those other times that I was sick - I self medicated because I knew what drugs are most effective for me.  I HATE going to a doctor - I hate the wait,  I hate they they're almost always late, I hate that their consultation fee is expensive, I hate that they're just *guessing* what you have based on your symptoms, plus - I hate going to hospital clinics - its so effing depressing.

A few months ago, I was invited to see QualiMed in PGH.  I wrote about how I was impressed with their facilities and their work standards.  During the tour, I learned that they have a branch in Trinoma.  Lucky for me, Trinoma is nearby.  So this morning - after waking up with a weird sound to my breathing and coughing endlessly and hard to the point that I was almost gagging, I decided to go see a doctor.  I knew I had to do it.  I should have done it earlier but oh well.  Haha!  I honestly had two (2) options:
Option 1:  Use our Valucare Health Card in St. Luke's QC
Option 2:  Use GC to visit QualiMed Trinoma.

I chose Option 2 - why?  Because, I didn't want to wait for forever for the doctor to show up.  ValuCare has two (2) pulmo doctors that day - one had clinic from 10am-11am while the other was 2pm-5pm.  I am one who likes to see the doctor in the morning because I don't want to waste the whole day waiting.  So I called the 10am-11am doctor, I was able to speak to the secretary and was told that the doctor was running late, I then asked if they were extending - and she said *No*.  I didn't want to waste my time an effort with waiting and then being told last minutes that I wouldn't be accommodated.  Plus, I really found it ODD that this particular doctor only allotted one (1) full hour for his patients!  Anyway, I decided to go to QualiMed.  I called first and I spoke to Geraldine, she was very nice on the phone - very accommodating.  She told me to look for her and that she would assist me when I got to the clinic.

When I got to QualiMed Trinoma - the place was quiet, very well lit, cold and clean.  It didn't seem like a clinic clinic.  It actually seemed like a very casual office!  Hahaha..  So when I got there, I asked for Geraldine and she was all smile, she gave me a small piece of paper with a number on it and I had to fill out some details like my name, age, and contact numbers.  After giving it back to her, I told her that I needed to see a doctor because I've had cough and colds for months and I needed a consult.  So, while waiting for my number to be called - I was looking around.  I thought to myself, that I didn't mind waiting in a place like this because the aircon was cold enough, the staff was all smiles and the place was clean.  There were screens all over the clinic's reception area - one screen was for the number sequence and all the other screens were for movies to entertain those waiting.  I was actually (happily) surprised to see Guardians of the Galaxy being shown!  Hahaha..  I loved that movie so much - it was such a feel good movie.  Anyways, I think I waited for about 20 minutes, but it didn't feel like 20 minutes because of all the *observing* that I was doing.  In a hospital clinic - you would need to wait in a hallway - a dark hallway without AC, time moved ever so slowly when you're there.  Do you agree?

I honestly didn't notice the 20 minute wait - when I was called, a staff took my my vitals, my blood pressure and my pulse.  A few minutes later I was called in the doctor's office.  I told her that I have been battling colds and cough for the past months, that 2 weeks ago - i took Azithromycin for 5 days and felt better and then after a week - Saturday night to be exact - I was sneezing like crazy and coughing every so often.  For the first time since I had cough and colds - yesterday, I felt very weak and my head was hurting.  While at Mass yesterday afternoon, I finished a whole pack of tissue!  She asked me what I was taking (if there was any) and so I told her that I was taking Loratadine as *allergy* medicines and I was taking this every night for the past month or so.  And that last Friday, I decided to try Benadryl AH and it helped (although I became sleepy).  She then took out her stethoscope put it on my back and asked me to breathe deeply.  I was honestly scared - because I hate diagnosis, any form of diagnosis for that matter.  So I was expecting the worse - (I was clutching my holding cross & rosary) after a few seconds that felt like eternity - the doctor told me *I don't hear anything, your lungs are clear as far I've heard them*  I was surprised - so I asked her again if she was sure and she said she was.   She then told me that she would be changing my *allergy* medicines and that as a precaution, she prescribed an antibiotic.  But I wasn't satisfied - I was thinking that since I was already there and I was already getting comfortable -  I told her what my doctor friend recommended that I do, and that was to have an X-Ray, just to check the lungs.  I think I surprised the doctor and she agreed - she told me that if I was comfy enough, that she would recommend it.  Since I was getting an X-Ray, she told me to also have a CBC if I was willing.  Everyone who knows me - know that I HATE needles - but I said yes.  SHOCKER!  Hahaha!  I was getting comfortable - the place didn't look creepy and not very hospital-ish (which I liked very much) so I thought to myself - GAME ON!  And I was terrified - ask my Panget whenever we have our yearly blood tests taken - I always *need* to hold someone's had but this time - I was just cool and relaxed.  Hahaha!  I swear - it's the *I'm not in an actual hospital* feel that made the difference (even it I was in a clinic!  Haha!!)  I was done in an hour's time - and I didn't even notice the wait which was great!  I was told that my result will come within the day - and I was happy with that.  I was very much satisfied with my experience, it was so pleasant that I wouldn't mind going back (if need be).

I called at 4PM to ask about my results and was told that I could pick them up at 6PM.  My CBC results were ready but the radiologist was still looking at my film.  I asked them if they could email me my CBC results and they did - and everything was within range.  I was honestly scared because my last blood test, some aspects were off the charts.  But of this CBC, my results were all within range - mid range to be exact.  I was honestly quite nervous on the X-Ray.

I went back to QualiMed at about 6:30PM to pick up my result.  The clinic was empty except for the guard and a receptionist.  The clinic was quiet too!  I gave my name and within seconds, I was greeted with a smile by a doctor and she told me to wait because they were printing out my results.  After a few minutes the nice doctor hands me my result - she tells me that everything was clear.  I told her that I was prescribed to take antibiotics and I wanted to know if I still needed to take them.  She said that as far as her interpretation goes - was that I didn't need an antibiotic.  But as a precaution, she contacted the doctor I consulted with to ask a proper endorsement.  We had to wait a while for the reply, but the doctor told me that I didn't need to take antibiotics.  She explained to me that my CBC was all in the normal range, and that the X-Ray result was also clear.  She then told me that asthma can't be seen in an X-Ray because it was an upper respiratory thing.  She then explained that it might have been the weather change (sudden raining, hot & cold) or it was due to dust in the air.  Oh my.....  I was telling her that I was prescribed with medicines that Kailee and Connor were taking - the difference was the dosage!

So there - my results were all CLEAR.  But still - I have cough and colds.  Is this just allergies?  Sigh.  I hope so.  I hope that my *new* meds will make me well or just manage my allergies because it's really getting to me.  I don't want to seem contagious to people (even if I look it!) since it's just allergies, but I know and see *judging* eyes - Hahahaha!!

I have been neglecting this blog because I haven't had the energy since I'm distracted with the on again & off again colds and cough (plus the kids have been sick on and off too!!) When I feel better, I promise to get back in the groove.

Consult cost me P350.00  (I'm sure if I went to a clinic I would burn at least P600.00)
X-Ray was P370.00
CBC was P240.00
I had to pay P150.00 for the X-Ray film (I wanted to keep it)

Not bad right?

---

I realized that my kids are not actually sick.  They're not contagious, they don't have bacteria or viruses - they just have allergies.  And mucus production is the body's way to protecting itself from getting sick.  I realized this because I was prescribed the same medicines - Cetirizine, an antihistamine and Fluimucil to to help expel mucus and Montelukast to manage the *allergy*
