What do you do when your helper has an emergency?  Well, I asses the situation - but most of the time - I allow them to leave.  I feel that I have no choice since its an *emergency* but I do take note of the number of * namatayan * reasons that they have. Most if not all helpers, have this idea on their minds on *Emergency Leaves* a)  You allow them to leave immediately b)  Allow them an *indefinite* number of days off c)  You will give them *extra* money as help d)  You will still pay for the days they are on leave Fair? I think not.  You see - when you say *emergency* to most people it simply means that there is an urgency for you to stop doing what you're doing to tend to a certain situation.  But for helpers, an emergency simply means that they *need* to go on a day off or go home or leave for home.  Sometimes is true, but most of the time its an excuse to leave where they are employed. OMG another domestic help issue. Almost two months ago, Kailee's Yaya Ga went home.  A week after the new year, she told me that she wanted to go home, and that she won't be coming back.  She says that her back hurts and that she feels that her asthma is recurring.  First of all, I never knew she had asthma - had I known, I would have had her checked and given her medication.  So anyway, I told her that I can let her go it I found a replacement.  )I still had her go to our suking manghihilot of her back - I wanted to help her somehow)  And so we looked.  Luckily more than a month ago, I found a replacement. Obviously, there is an adjustment stage - where the new yaya will get to know other helpers around.  There's my mom's helpers that she had to interact with, the yayas of my nieces and nephews and also the yayas of my friend's children.  I had to warn this new yaya that she should be careful with the other helpers & yayas becaus...

Is there a clear cut way how reprimand helpers? (Note:  My Yayas are all okay, thank goodness!) I've tried it all, I think.  I took time to explain to them but nothing works.  It seems nowadays that when you call their attention on something - ikaw pa yung masama .  To be honest, I have kept one eye shut - because I know they're not perfect, so I give them chances.  But when I see that nothing is improving, I make it a point to tell them.  But it always backfires. Is it wrong to call their attention on something that they did wrong?  Because all the helpers that I've dealt with (with an exception of a few) would feel that it was the end of the world when I call them on it.  They feel like they're being accused of something they didn't do! Take for instance - yesterday, we had no water.  So I told the helper to get use the water for washing dishes from the balde where we kept water (for emergencies - this water is replenished every 2 d...

And its official - the IRR (implementing rules and regulations) is already out and will be fully implemented by June 3, 2013. Make sure to read through the IRR and ask questions on the provisions that confuse you.  I'll try my best to help you in clarifying them.  FYI - I am NOT in anyway connected to DOLE or any PEA.  I am no expert too!  But I am willing to help since I've been doing for a while already. I know its a big adjustment for some, but luckily for me - I was already giving these benefits to my helpers (I learned it through my mom). To be honest, I won't be adjusting much to the Kasambahay Bill because ever since (I learned from my mom) we've always given our helpers the SSS, PhilHealth and Pag-Ibig benefits that the current law requires.  Our (now, my mom's) helpers have enjoyed benefits from these three institutions, they were able to get Sickness benefits, refunds from PhilHealth and most importantly, they were able to borrow money.  So for the issue of the SSS, PhilHealth and Pag-ibig benefits - well, we already got it covered.
