Didi Reviews: Konjac Sponge & Eczema

For a mom with two kids who both have eczema - I am most of the time desperate in finding a solution to ease my kids' skin conditions.  I would try ANYTHING just to ease their skin asthma, anything.  I've tried so many soaps, lotions, steroid creams and found not one thing that can be the ultimate solution. Just recently, I've found lotions that helped manage my Kailee and Connor's skin asthma.  Around the same time months ago, I received a message from a friend, she said that she would send me some Konjac sponge to try on the kids.  I remember being told by the Pedia-Dermas not to use anything on the kids's skin while bathing.  No towel, no washcloth to rub on their skin - just use our hands and soap.  Wash cloths they say will make the skin dry and the friction of rubbing may cause rashes in the skin - so I never used anything on them.  But with this product, my friend Czen (and also Atchi Pao) told me that these sponges are safe for babies and ...

Didi Reviews: Grandma El's Gentle Baby Lotion

Just before the Holy Week, my neighbor Vanessa gave me a bottle of Grandma El's Gentle Baby Lotion.  Since my kids have eczema, I'm always on the lookout for a good lotion for their skin.  This was a welcome for us because of the all natural ingredients. Every summer, my kid's eczema acts up even more.  The heat becomes unbearable to their skin.  Connor for one, gets rashes all over his body.  He doesn't itch as much as Kailee, but he gets a more rough skin spots, and red rashes all over his body.  These rough spots if not paid attention to, gets thicker - which is bad.  We've resorted to putting steroid creams just to manage it.  I've been wanting to avoid it, but it seems I can't.  What I need though is to lengthen the time in between using steroids cream.  With our previous lotions the time in between was just two weeks the most.  And we were happy with that length of time. Trying Grandma El's Baby Lotion, I was hoping to...

Didi Reviews: Trukid's Happy Face & Body Lotion

My next door neighbor Vanessa has been my supplier of Kailee and Connor's baby wipes.  Whenever I needed to replenish my stash - I would just text her and she will send my orders immediately.  I would then ask my helper or guard to bring over the payment to her.  It was only recently that I learned that she also distributes organic baby stuffs! She sent me this Trukid All Natural Happy Face & Body Lotion to try. It was perfect timing because we were on our way to Osaka.  The packaging is very handy and I love the fact that you can turn the pump in one way so there'll be no accidental spills.  Since it is a Face and Body lotion, it was all in one!  I tried this on my hands and found it really nice because the lotion gets absorbed easily too!  There is no greasy feeling.  I love the very light scent too! When we got to Osaka, it was a bit cold (weather became cool during the last 2 days) - and the weather made Kailee's skin very dry...

Beating Impetigo Contagiosa

Since Kailee and Connor have Skin Athsma/Eczema, its quite a normal sight to see rashes on their skins from time to time.  I've tried so many lotions, foreign brands, local brands, eco friendly brands, natural brands and nothing has worked to completely eliminate the skin asthma.  I've accepted the fact that to treat the rashes, I needed to put medicine/steroids on them, but just for a short while.  When the rashes disappear, I immediately stop with the medicines. Two weekends ago, while we were in Bohol - I noticed that Kailee had this small red dot on her thigh, it looked like an insect bite, so I dismissed it and put a natural remedy.  Whenever I caught her scratching it, I would tell her to stop. Before she went to sleep, I put a mild steroid cream - Synalar 10 on her.  The next day, it looked a bit better and so I stopped. When we got back to Manila - the rash looked a bit bad.  I gathered that Kailee must have scratched it, so much that it got w...

Kailee, the swimmer (wannabe)

My daughter loves the water so much.  Yes, when she was still an infant, she loved taking a bath!  When she was diagnosed with Skin Asthma/Eczema, we were advised by the doctor to bathe at least twice a day - and she loved it so much! But even if she loves the water - she was afraid of the pool.  Well a real actual swimming pool that is.  We would bring her to my sister in law's pool (at her condo) and she would hang on to my Panget's neck for dear life!  But she enjoyed the water very much.  So last January, when we knew that we were going to Bohol, my Panget insisted to enroll her to the Aqualogic swimming class.  My two nieces were schooled here (including my nepher) - and they are now very confident in the water. The first three classes were so stressful.  During the first class, she was so excited to see her baby cousin in the pool!  But when it was her turn to swim (my Panget was in the pool with her), she was crying and semi screa...

BioPha Organic Shower Gel

My kids have skin asthma/Eczema thus, I need to be careful with the products that I use on them.  For soaps, I've tried so many soap, shower gels and the like - I am currently using Dove Baby on them because its the only one that I found that is okay with their skin. Last weekend, we were at Bohol - I brought with me a BioPha Organic, a soap free Shower Gel to use on myself.  But while I was bathing Kailee, I had this idea on using it on her.  Just to try and see what happens.  And so I did.  And it was wonderful!  Kailee didn't itch, nor did she have rashes or dry patches after her shower.  She slept through the night without scratching.  I initially thought maybe it was just a first timer's luck, so on her next bath - I would try it again. So the next day, before going on our tour - I used it on Kailee.  And I was amazed because she never felt any itch the whole day!  She was so well behaved and did not complain of itchiness! ...

Allergy Scare

I remember when I was younger, an allergy attack was one of the things I feared the most because I didn't know when it will happen.  I always had about 2 pieces of allergy medicine (celestamine) in my wallet, just in case it happens.  Thankfully, I never had an allergy attack when I was out of the house. Last night, we had an allergy scare.  After dinner, I noticed Kailee scratching her tummy while we were watching Agent Oso on TV.  She was scratching and scratching - I then noticed that her tummy had a LOT of rashes.  I assumed that this was her normal rashes (Kailee has skin asthma/eczema so rashes were a norm to us once in a while) and since we were on maintenance antihistamine - I instructed Yaya to give her an early dose of it.  After giving Kailee the antihistamine, I left the room and took a bath.  When I came back, I was surprised to see that the rashes has spread to her face and legs!  These rashes were big red patches and they were spr...

Skin Asthma: Update!

Being a first time mom, I experienced high levels of stress when I found out that my baby girl has skin asthma otherwise known as eczema.  My pedia, Dr. Joy Ty-Sy advised me to bathe my baby every other day and gave me a skincare regimen to follow that consisted of moisturizing and moisturizing.  In all honesty, I was quite uncomfortable with the taking a bath every other day - even if reading articles online seconded her advise.  I wished that I would get to read an article that says otherwise - but there was none.  To tell you the truth, I didn't follow the 'taking a bath' advise - but the moisturizing part, I did - to the dot. Yaya and I followed the moisturizing part for about a week or two, what convinced me to seek a second opinion was when we noticed that K's scalp was red and scaly.  Yaya suggested we see a pedia-derma, so that once and for all - we'd know if the scaly scalp and body rashes were food related or just skin asthma.  I took her advise...

Skin Asthma

Yesterday was a stressful day.  I had to take Baby K to the doctor to check out the dry patches in her skin.  It has been days that we have been putting on petroleum jelly on her but it doesn't seem to work.  I have been updating the doctor and telling her that the patches are still dry - she told me to bring K over to her clinic. Last week, we have been noticing that the dry patches have a round shape.  I just dismissed it as dry patches - my mom suspected that it might be ringworm, but kept quiet.  When yaya told me that she suspects it was ringworm, my mom blurted out and told me 'I told you it was ringworm!'  This irked me so much because she never said ringworm!  She just said 'round'!  I was irked because she told me that I didn't listen to her - I mean, how will I associate round with ringworm right?  Oh, well - I just told her to tell me specifically what she was suspecting because if she drops hints, how was I supposed to know w...
