Parenting Advice from Becoming Sherilyn: 3 Things I learned parenting my 5-year old

I'm sure all of us had had those moments that we lose the tiny string of patience left in our sanity with our kids.  I am guilty of shouting at them when I get frustrated.  I start out with using a loving soft voice, but when I need to repeat what I said more than three times with them just ignoring me, I suddenly feel that I need to jolt them up using a louder angry.  It works, but I'm sure they're all very *jolted*.

How I wish there was a manual that we all can follow on parenting.

Repairing an interaction is one of the most valuable gifts we can give our kids — they learn that it is okay to make mistakes and that it doesn’t take away from a person to apologize. Kids benefit more from a parent who humbles and repairs than from a perfect parent. Another wonderful thing I’ve learned firsthand is that kids are so forgiving and they can sense a parent’s commitment to them. When we got home, my daughter made me this drawing to repair her interaction with me.

    Your friend's story is like me and my panganay, haha! I tried doing what your friend did, asking her if there was any problem in school (because she was so cranky when we were doing her assignments last night). Ayun, meron nga, she quarreled with one of her classmates. In short, laging may pinaghuhugutan pag bad mood ang isang tao, even if they're kids pa. Thanks for sharing this, Didi!

Learning Mandarin, what method is best?

I studied in a sort of Chinese school for 13 years. So that "sort of' means, I SHOULD know how to speak basic Mandarin right? NOT QUITE!! I studied in a Chinese school where we only get less than an hour of Chinese class daily.  When you think about it, well - one hour a day, should be okay - but the problem is, at that time - it was pure memorization.  The books that we used, were those traditional books that I honestly have no idea what is written in them.  I see Chinese characters and they're just that - Chinese characters without meaning, nothing.  It was not practical if you ask me.  The words we were taught were not used in everyday conversation It was only during my 3rd or 4th year of high school that I realized how important knowing how to speak Chinese was.  It was during a trip to the Chinese border from Hong Kong that while I was going around the mall, I was having a hard time communicating with people who looked like me.  I wa...

ANSON SUPERMARKET - Grocery delivery!!

Sharing is caring, so we can't keep it a secret any longer.  THIS is where we get out groceries!  Well, Anson Supermarket has been where we have been purchasing all of our kids' diapers!  From Kailee to Connor to Shobe!  Yes, yes, yes!
